Model Checking Using Generalized Testing Automata

چکیده
Geldenhuys and Hansen showed that a kind of ω-automata known as Testing Automata (TA) can, in the case of stuttering-insensitive properties, outperform the Büchi automata traditionally used in the automata-theoretic approach to model checking [10]. In previous work [23], we compared TA against Transition-based Generalized Büchi Automata (TGBA), and concluded that TA were more interesting when counterexamples were expected, otherwise TGBA were more efficient. In this work we introduce a new kind of automata, dubbed Transition-based Generalized Testing Automata (TGTA), that combine ideas from TA and TGBA. Implementation and experimentation of TGTA show that they outperform other approaches in most of the cases.

Extending Testing Automata to All LTL
An alternative to the traditional Büchi Automata (BA), called Testing Automata (TA) was proposed by Hansen et al. [8, 6] to improve the automatatheoretic approach to LTL model checking. In previous work [2], we proposed an improvement of this alternative approach called TGTA (Generalized Testing Automata). TGTA mixes features from both TA and TGBA (Generalized Büchi Automata), without the disad...
متن کاملSymbolic Model Checking of Stutter-Invariant Properties Using Generalized Testing Automata
In a previous work, we showed that a kind of ω-automata known as Transition-based Generalized Testing Automata (TGTA) can outperform the Büchi automata traditionally used for explicit model checking when verifying stutter-invariant properties. In this work, we investigate the use of these generalized testing automata to improve symbolic model checking of stutter-invariant LTL properties. We pro...
متن کاملGeneralization of MOPS for Software Testing using Finite State Machine
This paper augments MOPS [1] by adding specific formal rules for finding potential security vulnerabilities in programs, generally written in C. The key idea is to use simple generalized finite state automata for different categories of security problems with software coding. A set of finite state machines for individual vulnerabilities (i.e., unreachable code, ignored return values) are define...
متن کاملLinear weak alternating automata and the model checking problem
Abstract. Automata-based model checking is a widely used approach towards software model checking. Traditionally, nondeterministic Büchi automata are used to represent the temporal logic property to be checked. We take a look at a special kind of alternating automata, the linear weak alternating automata. They can be constructed from LTL formula in an elegant way in linear time. The emptiness c...
متن کاملSPOT: An Extensible Model Checking Library Using Transition-Based Generalized Büchi Automata
Spot is a C++ library offering model checking bricks that can be combined and interfaced with third party tools to build a model checker. It relies on Transition-based Generalized Büchi Automata (TGBA) and does not need to degeneralize these automata to check their emptiness. We motivate the choice of TGBA by illustrating a very simple (yet efficient) translation of LTL into TGBA. We then show ...
